A high-level online wine course, ideal for professionals working in the wine industry as well as serious wine enthusiasts.

Tasting Kit

You can choose to receive a WSET level 3 dedicated tasting kit with 64 wine samples (20mL for each), it is optional but very helpful !

What’s covered ?

Unit 1
The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
The key characteristics of the principal:
– still wines of the world
– sparkling wines of the world
– fortified wines of the world
How to apply your understanding to make authoritative recommendations

Unit 2
How to taste wines and evaluate quality, identity and price, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Online tastings on 12 general styles of wines (students to provide their own samples)

Assessment

Note that exam is NOT online. You will have to take your exam in person in Marseille, you can choose your exam date out of our exam planning.

For Unit 1, you will need to answer 50 multiple choice questions and four short-answer questions. For Unit 2, you will perform a blind tasting of two wines and be asked to describe the wines and analyze their quality. To graduate, you must answer 55% of the questions correctly in each unit. You will receive your result by email about 8 weeks after your exam date. Your certificate will then be mailed to you. You can retake one or both of the units if you did not pass for a fee of 100 euros for each unit. Our students have a pass rate of 100% for the theory unit and 100% for the tasting unit for Online Level 3.

Pre-requisite and Accessibility

You must be 18 years old to register. Having obtained the WSET 2 Award in Wines or being able to prove an equivalent level of knowledge is strongly suggested in order to succeed in this training. Excellent comprehension and writing in the selected language are also encouraged to follow the training.

About the course
Gain an extensive understanding of wines through a 9-week online study programme that is flexible to work around your existing commitments. The Level 3 Award in Wines Online covers the same syllabus as the classroom course, but through an Online Classroom which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of an educator. Please note that the exam is completed in person and not online.
This course is designed to develop your ability to describe wine accurately and account in detail for the style, quality and price of wines.
As you work through the course you will be asked to share your learning experience with the rest of the course group, looking in detail at the influences that affect each wine style and sharing tasting notes. Tasting is an essential part of studying for this course, and you will need to taste a minimum of 12 wines (not provided, but you will be given guidance on the styles to taste).

Do I need any prior knowledge?
This course is open to students who have passed the Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits. If you do not hold the Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits, but have obtained the relevant knowledge and experience, you are eligible to gain entry through successful completion of an online entry test.
The course is delivered online and in English therefore basic computer literacy, internet navigation skills and a good level of English are required.
