WSET Level 1 Award in Sake Online

4 weeks of training online and exam in person,

Exams are held every month and you can choose your exam date (within 12 months)

  • The main categories of japanese sake
  • The principles of sake making
  • How to describe sake using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Sake® (SAT)


Note that the exam is NOT online, it takes place in person in Marseille. You can choose the date of your exam out of exam planning.

A 45 minutes final exam will take place. To obtain your certification, you will have to correctly answer 70% of the 30 multiple-choice questions. You will receive your result by email about 8 weeks after your exam date. Your certificate will then be mailed to you.  You can retake the exam if you do not pass for a fee of 80 euros.

Pre-requisite and Accessibility

This training does not require prior knowledge of sake. You must be 18 years old to register.  Excellent comprehension and writing in the selected language are also encouraged to follow the course.

About the course

Learn about spirits through a 4 week online study programme that is flexible to work around your existing commitments. The Level 1 Award in Spirits Online covers the same syllabus as the classroom course, but through a supported and interactive Online Classroom which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator.
Successful students will receive their WSET certificate

Do I need any prior knowledge?

No prior knowledge in wine is required. The course is delivered online and in English therefore basic computer literacy, internet navigation skills and a good level of English are required.
